About Tricia Smith

How you choose to interpret that statement is pretty much up to you, I’m either very very good, or very very bad – there is no in between!

Doing a dangerous thing and making an assumption, I imagine that you have come to this page because you want to know something about me, so here goes – for today at least, tomorrow it might say something different…

Basics out of the way first, I’m in my early sixties, too old to suffer fools gladly and too young to think of myself as old. I am married to The Dearly Beloved, a state we enjoyed together for over 36 years until his death in 2012 which has left me broken and bereft in more ways than I ever thought possible. We have a beautiful daughter who is the apple of our respective eyes, and who has given me the courage to continue, even though sometimes I lack the strength. I’ve lived in the heart of rural Worcestershire since 1997 and it will take the end of the world to move me out – unless you offer me a nice place by my favourite Golf Course in the Vendee, when I might consider moving there for a few months each year, particularly if you stock the cellar with wines from Chateau Marie de Fou.

I love to work at my loom, play golf, make lace, drink wine (especially that one), have a fondness for chocolate and an addiction to Tea. It is my firmly held belief that the Internet runs on the Brownian Motion of A Nice Cup of Tea – if you don’t understand that then do read Douglas Adam’s wonderful trilogy in five parts which begins with The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Speaking of books – I read a lot too, mostly in electronic formats these days being deeply in love with my iPad and Kindle, but sometimes there is nothing as wonderful as turning the pages of a good book, especially when curled up in a comfortable chair with a cup of Tea and a slice of cake.

I try to live my life by two guiding principles, ‘Do as you would be done by’ and ‘I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend unto death your right to say it’ which is a quote from Winston Churchill I think . My political views are generally regarded as libertarian though I have to confess to a loathing for our current government which occasionally causes me to break out into tirades and rants, but then again so did the previous bunch – interpret that as you will. I speak my mind freely, what you see is what you get, and the patience gene passed me by, so be forewarned on that one. I have a deep and abiding faith in the intrinsic goodness of most people, but accept that there are some who are not so good. Most important is that I refuse to live my life in fear, despite the best efforts of the previously mentioned governments to make us do just that.

For many years my byline on the web has been ‘Net Wanderer, Online Marketer and Grumpy Old Woman’ and it describes me pretty well, and also leads me neatly into talking about my work. I wander the web, I build websites for myself and for other people. I love SEO, giving me a new site to work with is like giving me a never ending box of chocolates – fantastic! I help businesses online and off with their marketing, online and off. I’m always learning and always happy to share what I have learned. I could go into details but this site is about me first and my work second, or even third, so I’m not going to go on about it any further. If you want to know more check out flaminglacer.com and my work blog, flaminglacer’s mutterings – you could even follow me on Twitter – @flaminglacer and if you want to know why I use the name flaminglacer – you’ll have to go to one of those places to find out!

Questions are allowed – just contact me – and before I forget, welcome to my blog.
